Memphis man worries about students crossing busy road

By Jamel Major - bio | email

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A busy intersection near Chickasaw Middle School has one Mid-South man concerned about the kids who cross there.

Right now, there are no stop signs for eastbound and westbound traffic on Raines Road, so kids are left to cross the street on their own.

"People speeding, they don't give the children any kind of respect in reference to when they're trying to cross," Kenneth Van Buren said.

Monday, Van Buren took the matter into his own hands. Chickasaw Middle School does not have a crossing guard, so with a homemade stop sign in hand, Van Buren tried to help kids cross Raines Road safely.

Consolidation hot topic in suburbs

A Political Action Committee called Partnership Lakeland will hold a consolidation forum on Tuesday, Sept 21 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at First Baptist Church in Lakeland.
