Phoenix University drive provides help for homeless moms

Getting an education doesn't always involve a classroom.  Students, faculty and staff at The University of Phoenix-Memphis Campus recently held a drive to collect baby items for a local charity.

More than 2,500 items were collected for the AGAPE Families in Transition program.  The program supports homeless pregnant mothers and their children.

Organizers say the drive was in response to the high infant mortality rate in Memphis.   Memphis has the highest infant mortality rate among the largest 60 cities in the United States.

Victim speaks out about online car dealership scam

By Nick Kenney - bio | email

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Cleveland, Ohio resident who thought she was buying a car from a Mid-South auto dealership is likely one of many victims of a website that stole the identity of a Memphis business.

"More than my heart sank.  I broke into tears," victim Amanda Hanson said. "I wish I could go back in time and just stop myself."

Through Americautosales.com, Hanson put down $2,200 on a used Chevy that she thought she was buying from America Auto Sales in Memphis.  But the website was a fraud, stealing money that customers paid in good faith as a down payment.
