Memphis, Tenn. – Two Memphis City Schools employees were recently selected to serve on a prestigious national council that is on the forefront of digital education.

City of Memphis Opens First Dog Park

The City of Memphis Division of Park Services has opened its first dog park at 2599 Avery Avenue, behind the Board of Education. Hours of operation for the park are the same as they are for all city parks, 6 a.m.—8 p.m. March 15—October 31st(summer hours) and 6 .m.—6 p.m. November 15— March 14 (winter hours).

MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 2, 2010 – Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) announced that Wachovia signs and systems will change to Wells Fargo in late September at seven bank locations in Memphis, and a total of 18 bank locations across Tennessee, when the largest bank  merger in U.S. history moves to its first states in the East.

Memphis, TN – May 27, 2010 – Leadership Memphis, an organization that continually develops new and innovative ways to connect and create more community leaders, is officially launching recruitment for its upcoming FastTrack Fall 2010 leadership program. With the increasing number of young leaders now embracing more significant roles within the community, this program is particularly important. 

Malco Theatres Offer Kids Summer Film Fest

Malco Theatres have begun their Kids Summer Fun Fest.  This event will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. until July 28th.  The admission fee is $2.00 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit various children's hospitals in the mid-south, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

MATA announces 5th annual "National Dump the Pump" activities

Action News 5 received the following information from MATA:

With the economic recession still in effect and with the return of high gas prices, Memphis Area Transit Authority will join with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the Fifth Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 17.  The slogan of this year’s National Dump the Pump Day is “Dump the Pump.  Save Money.  Ride Transit.”

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) the 2010 National Dump the Pump Day is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation and save money, instead of driving a car. Started in June 2006 when gas prices were $3 per gallon, this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money.

Summer Debate Institute available to all MCS high school students

The Memphis Urban Debate League has announced its Summer Debate Institute.

The high-school policy debate topic for this coming school year is: Resolved - The United States federal government should substantially reduce its military and/or police presence in one or more of the following: South Korea, Japan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq, Turkey.

This program is offered free of charge to all MCS high school students.  Non-MCS high school students may attend for a fee of $300.00.
