19-year-old indicted on multiple rape, burglary charges | Crime

(WMC-TV) – A Whitehaven man has been indicted for a string of burglaries and rapes last year.

Daramis Sharkey, 19, was indicted by a grand jury Thursday. He’s been charged with four counts of aggravated rape and four counts of aggravated burglary.

Investigators say fingerprints connected Sharkey to a September 2011 burglary and rape in the 5000 block of Schutt.

According to police, upon questioning, Sharkey confessed and admitted to two other rapes and a break-in in the same neighborhood.

In June, there was a home invasion and rape in the 1900 block of Wilson.  In July, another woman was attacked inside her home in the 5000 block of Hornsby. A fourth woman was raped in September 2011 in the 4700 block of Childs.

All four locations are within a mile of each other and just a few blocks from Sharkey’s home.

Aggravated rape carries a sentence of between 15 and 60 years with no chance at parole. Aggravated burglary carries a sentence of between 3 and 15 years.
