Police: Man used slurs during Midtown attack | Crime
(WMC-TV) – A woman was beaten by a man at a popular Cooper-Young bar for hugging a former high school classmate, according to police.
The victim was at Celtic Crossing Irish Pub Sunday when investigators say she saw a female friend from high school.
The women hugged and talked, but according to court records, one bar patron wasn’t happy about it.
Investigators say Brandon Hooper walked up to the pair and called the victim an anti-gay slur.
Hooper punched the woman in the face, knocking her out and breaking her nose, according to court records.
Hooper was arrested on Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault.
He’s currently behind bars on $50,000 bond.
