Firefighters find marijuana, guns in burning house

(WMC-TV) - A house fire is always bad news, but things got even worse for one man Wednesday when crews found a hidden stash of guns and drugs while they fought to save his house.

George Williams suffered burns to his hands when his rented home in the 4500 block of Applegate caught fire Wednesday afternoon. Williams was taken to the hospital for treatment while crews fought the flames.

A firefighter pulled away part of the home's ceiling and cash, guns, ammunition and black bags fell to his feet, police said.

Police showed up and found that the bags were filled with marijuana, according to court records. In all, investigators say they found nearly 2 and-a-half pounds of marijuana, 540 hydrocodone pills, 5 pistols and about $7,000 in cash inside the house.

Williams, a convicted felon, later admitted that everything officers found belonged to him, according to court papers.

Williams is currently behind bars on $100,000 bond.
