Fourth auto body shop fire in Memphis in March

Several vehicles caught fire at an auto body shop in Memphis overnight. Crews were on the scene in the 1500 block of Elvis Presley just after 2:30 this morning.

Fire officials initially thought the E & P Body Shop was on fire, but they noticed that the flames were actually coming from several cars in the parking lot. It took them about half an hour to put them out. No one was hurt.

This is at least the fourth auto body shop fire in Memphis this month. March 2, M & M Customs on E.H. Crump caught fire. March 14, flames broke out at Memphis Auto and Towing Service on Lamar Ave. Then on March 21, fire broke out at Sykes Auto Parts and Repair on Walker Ave.

Gunman wanted for gas station robbery

Police are looking for the crook that held a clerk at gunpoint while he robbed a gas station late last month.

Investigators say the man was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans when he robbed the Mapco Express at 1505 Brooks RD. around 2:15 a.m. on Feb. 28. The gunman pointed a silver pistol at the clerk while he grabbed money from the gas station’s cash register. It’s unclear how much money the robber made off with.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - News of 59-year-old Ivory Black's death is still sinking in at Blooming Scholars Child Care Center, where Black drove a bus everyday for the past two years.

"Can't believe somebody would hurt him because he's such a good person," coworker Carolyn Hall said Monday.  "I just really can't believe it."

Equally unbelievable is the manner in which Black died.  Court records say he was shot, stabbed, and was found with his right leg amputated at the knee.

Black's daughter discovered his body last Thursday inside the family's home on Santa Cove in Whitehaven.  His 23-year-old son, Jeremy, was in custody within a day, and charged with first degree murder by the end of the weekend.

It was just two and half hours after the card was taken at gunpoint from a woman walking along Highland near the University of Memphis.

"We try and tell people not to walk in this area by themselves," said longtime resident Eli Turham. "People get desperate and need money or need something."
