Photographer assaulted on nature shoot

An amateur photographer, who was shooting pictures of the scenery at Coro Lake, wound up worried he might be the target of a different kind of shooting.

While taking photos Sunday afternoon, the photographer noticed a man watching him from inside a blue Ford F-350 parked nearby.

The photographer packed up his gear and left, but according to the affidavit of complaint, the pick-up truck followed him all the way home.

When the photographer started walking into his house, police say the driver of the pick-up truck demanded to know why he was taking pictures of his truck, pointed a handgun at him, and told him "You don't know who you're messing with."

The photographer ran inside and called 911.

Green spray paint solves Memphis City School air conditioner theft

Green spray paint solves Memphis City School air conditioner theft

A Memphis City Schools measure to curb the theft of air conditioning units from school campuses solved a mid-October theft from Doubletree Elementary School.

After repeatedly having air conditioning unit coils stolen for scrap metal, Memphis City Schools started marking their coils with fluorescent green spray paint.

On Oct.12, Doubletree Elementary School staff found four rooftop A/C units had been stripped of their coils and destroyed to the tune of $34,000 worth of damage.

However, Crittenden County Recyclying called police to report a batch of coils marked with green spray paint that had been brought into their business to be sold as scrap.

MCS officials were able to identify the coils.

The scrap yard had a copy of the driver's license of the person who sold them the coils.

Now, Dontell Vester is charged with one count of vandalism between $10,000 and $60,000 and one count of theft between $10,000 and $50,000.

How to shield your smart phone from hacking

How to shield your smart phone from hacking

Cyber-criminals can hack your smart phone just like they'd hack your computer.

A spokesperson for ProtectMyID.com, an identity protection service sold by credit bureau Experian, said one in every seven of those hackers is a friend or relative of their victims. They call that "friendly fraud."

Doesn't sound very friendly to me.

These are user-friendly, though. They are ProtectMyID.com's tips to prevent smart phone hacking:

* Password protect your phone with a unique password. Use different passwords for each online account. The Secret Service recommends passwords with at least eight characters, mixing letters, numbers, symbols and cases.

* When finished, log out of applications that automatically access payment information.
