(WMC-TV)- Shelby County is helping its residents by giving advice on how to cope with the responsibilities that come along with home ownership. Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir conducts a program is called “Project H.O.M.E” which stands for Home Ownership Made Easier.
During this project there are monthly workshops conducted by the Trustee’s Community Outreach and Financial Empowerment staff along with Regions Bank to help delinquent taxpayers prevent their properties from being sold.
During the workshops people will learn the basics of budgeting and have the opportunity to complete a spending plan and prepare an initial plan with Trustee staff to pay off their property taxes. Those who complete the workshop receive a certificate and the chance to set up a reasonable payment plan, which prevents the sale of the property at tax sale.
This month’s workshop will be Tuesday, June 26, at the Charles Powell-Westwood Community Center at 6 p.m.
