(WMC-TV) – A well-known Memphis restaurant is closed this morning after being damaged during a fire Friday.

Melanie's, which has been a fixture in the strip mall at 1070 N. Watkins St. for nearly 30 years, suffered smoke and water damage during the blaze.

Investigators say the fire started when a gas line ruptured in another business in the strip mall.

In all, four businesses suffered damage.

However, Jimmie Leach, the owner of Melanie’s, said her business wasn’t damaged as badly as several others. She hopes her restaurant will be able to reopen in a few weeks.
