Councilman: Whitehaven is the Ohio of Tennessee | Politics

As presidential candidates target the swing states on the campaign trail, the community of Whitehaven seems to be the target in Memphis and Shelby County.

Memphis Councilman Harold Collins hosted the grand opening for President Obama's headquarters at Shelby Drive and Elvis Presley Boulevard Saturday.

"As they told me Saturday, as I took the phone call, Whitehaven is the Ohio of Tennessee. So goes Whitehaven, so goes the electorate in Memphis and Shelby County,” said Memphis councilman Harold Collins.

Mitt Romney opened his headquarters on Getwell in late September.

He said national candidates choose Whitehaven because voters there go to the polls more than any other community in Memphis and Shelby County.
