A popular tire redemption program's comeback Wednesday brought some new traction to the Mid-South's effort to decrease blight.
People were lining up at Liberty Tires on Elvis Presley Boulevard as early as Tuesday night for a program that pays a dollar per tire.
In past years the tire redemption program has taken thousands of old tires off the streets.
The goal is to reduce the kind of community blight associated with the illegal dumping of tires.
To participate you must have identification that proves you are a Shelby County resident.
Also, the limit is 100 tires per trip, two trips per day, until the money runs out.
The place to bring your old tires is 3000 Elvis Presley Boulevard. Organizers say just show up between 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Keep in mind no one will get paid at the redemption site, and that money will be mailed to participants.
